Yeah, this is about right…

, , ,

One might think that “entertainment industry weirdo performs satanic dance number, sponsored by Pfizer” would be the sort of thing I’d yammer on about. But… this schtick is old. What, am I supposed to act surprised that a weirdo is a weirdo?

I’m of two minds about people who mess about with Satanic imagery. On the one hand, since I don’t believe in Satan… meh. You just look like a goober. On the other hand, some of these people *do* believe in Satan. And if *you* believe in Satan and you’re playing at Satanic stuff… it makes me wonder about your sanity, in the same way I’d look askance at a Cthulhu cultist. But in this case, I suspect that the Freedom Toons people are correct: it’s a desperate bid for attention, an attempt to fill an inner emptiness that will never, can never, be filled with cheap and hollow pursuits.

And I suspect the Pfizer people didn’t see this coming. Like they didn’t see Project Veritas coming.

    Yeah, that cartoon nailed it.

I think no small part of it is their counting on people being outraged at their doing outrageous things. Whether they believe it or not is irrelevant they’re just after the reactions. They know that “Satanism” is “really hot right now” so they’ve jumped on that bandwagon. If it was something else which they thought could score ’em a higher level of “outrage points” then that’s what they’d be doing instead. There’s no more depth to ’em than that.

As to the Satanists? Yeah, there’s some who are in it for just that effect to. Kinda like the kids who were into Punk Rock back in the day because they knew it’d piss off their parents. No deeper interest or intent than that.

For others though? Satanism seems to attract the really creepy types that would be just as creepy even without any Satanic trappings but who use their “Satanism” to justify their creepiness. So, for me, it’s a sign to stay away from such folk. They are either insincere or they’ve some really dark personal issues that could be dangerous to be around.

With a lot of this nonsense, from “edgy” celebrities to gym-girls feigning fear and outrage over some dude glancing their way, it’s clearly a matter of attention-seeking. Getting upset at them only feeds them. What they merit is half-hearted and *brief* mockery… then turning the page.

There was a time when this BS merited – and received – actual outrage. The purveyors of cultural perversion would be driven from polite society. This is no longer possible; indeed the opposite is far more likely with someone espousing entirely sane beliefs getting arrested or cancelled. At some point the pendulum will swing the other way, and i suspect things could get *nasty.*

As to Satanists: there seem to be two types of “serious” satanist:
      1) The ones who buy into Satan as being an entity of pure evil. These people are nuts.
      2) the ones who see satan as more of a concept… they tend to be fans of freedom and rebellion and whatnot. That’s fine and all, but the fact that they have chosen as their idol a being that *is* considered to be pure evil makes their ability to judge things wisely seem dubious. As an analogy: someone who thinks that white people and culture are great and should be supported? Perfectly fine. Good, in fact. Choosing as their symbol Hitler or Charles Manson? Naw, dude. Naw.
