Optimi?
These are the sort of toys that kids my age would have gone absolutely nuts for back in the 80’s. Of course, the Defense Department would have gone nuts for them as well. And our parents would have laughed their assess off when we asked for toys costing up to $1000. “What the hell is an ‘app’?”
I do question the sense of creating a second version that’s functionally almost exactly the same but something like 10% smaller. That just seems odd to me.
I had a little vision while watching this that what eventually needs to happen:
- Functional remote control while in vehicle mode.
- Cameras in the eyes, microphones, all that.
- Scale it up so Optimus is about human sized.
- Ditch all the “Optimus Prime” design stuff, and just have a functional android that transforms into a functional vehicle.
Once you’ve got that, and have nailed down shielding and proper power supply and good reliable communications… you’ve got a bot that can serve a lot of useful roles. Drive it into an industrial disaster site, transform into android and scout for survivors or whatnot. Battlefield roles. Cruising the streets… not just as cops, but as firefighters and generic “useful robo-helpers.” Helping fix broken-down cars, assisting with accidents, scooping up protestors who have glued themselves to the road, etc.
