“Picard” rejects “Discovery”

Season three of “Star Trek Picard” has been an astonishing breath of fresh “Star Trek.”  After four dismal years of “Discovery” insulting the fandom and crapping on the legacy, and two hideous seasons of “Picard” that took a steamer on the character of “Picard,” season three, under new management, has really turned things around. And the latest episode  goes so far as to wipe out the Discovery production design aesthetic.

There is a visit to the Star fleet Museum, showing a number of of ships on display. These include the Defiant from Deep Space Nine, Janeway’s Voyager, the NCC-1701-A Enterprise, the HMS Bounty whale hauler… and the USS New Jersey. This is a never before seen, probably never before mentioned ship. Which makes sense; doubtless Star Fleet has lots of ships worthy of keeping that never showed up in any prior episode or movie. But what makes the scene really special: all of these ships are, so far as I can tell, *exactly* what they should be in terms of design. The Bounty looks like a Klingon vessel from Star trek III and IV, not one of those gibberish ships from Discovery. The Enterprise, Voyager, Defiant are all quite correct. And the New Jersey? Take a look:

That’s a *proper* TOS-era Connie-class. Not like the sad spectacle of “Pikes” Enterprise from STD/SNW.

And there’s the fact that Worf looks like a Trek Klingon, not a nuTrek Klingork.

So, yeah. Picard ends with this season. But the powers that be will be *really* missing out if they don’t follow this up with a series that spins off of Picard Season Three… same production crew, same production aesthetic, same writers, same producers. They finally found people to work on Trek who actually *like* Trek.

Now, there is a museum I want to visit.

Perhaps do a show that revolves around the “Star Fleet Museum”. Sort of like the Librarians/Warehouse 13 but within the Star Trek Universe.

I could get behind that. Get Saul Rubinek (sic?) onboard for double the fun. Have his character get nervous every time he passes by the Data display…

I would have thrown a bone to FASA and had the Connie be Ark Royal.

Shocked everyone is glossing over the fact that Captain Kirk is alive and in stasis
Those were bio signs on that screen
There has to be a payoff

The text says he was “seriously injured” and was recovered by “Project Phoenix.” Unless they wake him up later in Picard Season 3, I doubt there are any real plans for this, since spinoffs from PS3 seem to have been unplanned since nobody expected it to be as popular as it is.

As in phoenix rising from the ashes
I’ll take a cameo. Shatner could run rings around most of this cast and the de aging software could do the rest

There are three ways to go for a Kirk cameo:
          1) Use the actor that’s on Strange New Worlds. This would open the door for recurring character or even a series. But… it’s not *Shatner.* Meh.
          2) Use 92-year-old Shatner. Maybe Project Phoenix has kept him alive, but he’s aged the whole time. this would be easy, but really only good for a cameo. not a series, no action scenes, no long range planning potential.
          3) Use Deep Fake… not de-aging. De-aging doesn’t look any better than deep fake, and it leaves the problem that the base actor is still *old* and moves as such. Recreate 1967 Shatner in appearance and voice, using as much AI as needed to do it *right.* And for Gawd’s sake, get Shatner on board with it. Make sure he’s happy and *compensated.* This opens not just cameo potential, but ongoing series potential.

I suspect the finale of Season 3 will involve all the old museum ships coming to the rescue on Frontier Day. Worf on the Defiant, Janeway (maybe, at least Seven) on the Voyager… Kirk on the Enterprise. I could maybe get behind a limited series after that with Young Kirk and Old Scotty reunited on the Enterprise, off on new adventures. At least it’ll be nice to see the NX-01 Refit in action (it’s barely glimpsed in the background).

2 or 3 would be phenomenal
That CW actor is absolute trash. Shockingly perhaps the worst casting decision of all time considering he’s portraying the greatest fictional hero of all time. As bad as alpine is, at least he has his own charms.
Frankly I’d be happy with a 2 second shot of de aged or deep faked shatner sitting in his chair on the A with a shit eating grin and stealing the enterprise, warping away and me knowing my hero is alive and out there would be closure enough for me

The “Kirk” actor on SNW is probably “good” because he’d be willing to do guy-on-guy, because they’ve made it clear they’re turning Kirk gay for season two. Which… yeah, naw, no thanks. Another reason why I’d prefer a “returned Kirk” to be the best possible Actual Shatner possible, as that would further separate future trek from Disaster Trek..
