Russia: Not Nice

A while back the “Wagner Group” of Russian mercenaries started recruiting Russian criminal prisoners to fight in Ukraine. One such recruit got to Ukraine and apparently promptly surrendered, deciding that he just couldn’t kill Ukrainians. Unfortunately, he was sent back to the Russians as part of a prisoner exchange and turned over to the Wagner Group.

They executed him. With a sledgehammer.

I’ve seen the video. It’s not as graphic as one might imagine, but it’s certainly definitive, and I won’t post it here for obvious reasons. But apparently executing people with a sledgehammer is Wagner’s trademark. These are the people Putin is touting. These are the people standing at the forefront of Russias public image. If you are in any way a Putin supporter, ask yourself: “Are we the baddies?”

That the Ukrainians just handed him over doesn’t say much about their character either.

Maybe he was just a worm an wimped out—or maybe he genuinely was a moral man….the world doesn’t seem to have much use for either, it seems.
