Why are antennas popping up all over the foothills? Salt Lake City seeks to solve mystery
It seems that someone is building devices consisting of locked boxes with electronics, powered by solar panels and attached to sizable antennae, and are putting the atop various hills around Salt Lake City. Their purpose remains unknown, but unlicensed transmitters like this on public or university property are illegal. the article suggests that these are somehow related to cryptocurrencies, without explain the how or why of that (though Twitter commenters seem certain that these are “Helium miners.”). I might speculate that someone is setting up their own communication system; or they are intercepting some other radio communications for ill defined but likely nefarious purposes; or this is some sort of weird military tracking system of some kind. Or… someone with a fair amount of money and a lot of free time is just having a bizarre laugh.

My guess is that they’re the work of preppers setting up their own independent, self-powered WAN for when SHTF.
Not stated in the article, AFAIK:
Are they active? If so, that kind of information and encoding is involved? What’s the frequency, Kenneth?
Nah-it’s just the Mormans guiding in their Battlestar.
