So much for history

The last few years have seen a lot of historic landmarks trashed. Get ready for another one:

Holmdel Horn — Which Heard Evidence of the Big Bang — Is at Risk

This early radio telescope was the first to detect the “hiss” of the cosmic background radiation. Most people are, most likely, wholly unimpressed with that. The current owners of the property it sits on seem to be unimpressed with that. People who actually give a damn *should* be impressed with that.

    I signed the petition- not sure how much good it will do. But this is a good example of how far AT&T has fallen..

    IIRC this is the place known to have generated one of the few Nobel Prizes which used a bucket. Penzias and Wilson were trying like mad to get this stupid low-level noise out of their measurements, and thought at one point it was coming from all the pigeons, er, doing their business in the antenna. But after cleaning out all of the pigeon leavings they still had this stupid noise…
